Entering the Hagia Sophia. It was originally built as a cathedral in 537 AD under Emperor Justinian I and was the largest cathedral in the world for nearly a thousand years. The building’s history includes conversions from a church to a mosque, a museum, and back to a mosque. The mosaic depicts the Virgin Mary and Child flanked by two emperors from when it was a church.
