First stop was the Botanical Garden of Puerto de la Cruz. The garden was created by a Royal Order from King Carlos III on August 17, 1788. Its original purpose was to cultivate tropical plant species that could not survive the climate in mainland Spain’s royal gardens, today it’s a scientific institution that carries out international germo-plasm exchanges.
