The next place we visited was the Château des Milandes built in 1489 and the home of the French-American entertainer and civil rights activist Josephine Baker, who first rented it in 1940 and bought it in 1947. It’s now a museum in her honor. Baker raised her twelve adopted children, whom she called her “Rainbow Tribe,” at the castle to demonstrate that children of different ethnic backgrounds could live together harmoniously
