The necropolis is an exceptional testimony to the ancient Etruscan civilization, which thrived in central Italy from the 9th Century B.C. It contains approximately 6,000 graves, with the oldest dating back to the 7th century BC. The stone containers behind him are cinerary urns where the ashes of the cremated dead were placed.
